3 Common Mistakes in Interpretation Exam
Robotic meaning:
Many students make the mistake of interpreting word for word. As an interpreter, you need to interpret ideas into other language in the same style as it is intended. You are not doing a robotic job, you need to filter the weight of the words and interpret them into target languages.
Grammar:
You need to use grammar properly during interpretation. The ‘tense’ you are using in interpretation that must be like speaker’s note. If you change the verb form what speaker says, you are in risk of error. Also remember , word cluster, word order, singular and plural form.
Wrong Word meaning:
Students oftentimes use vocabularies in wrong context. There are certain words which cannot be interpreted into other language. For example, there is no equivalent for the word “Master card” in other languages. Similarly, you cannot interpret some of your native words into English. Since these words are associated with cultural and religious process, you cannot interpret them in context of other religion. Also, sometimes students assume a close word meaning but practically that is far from the original meaning even in some instances it turns into opposite word meaning.
